- Like 2010, I spent the early part of the year waiting around like a lemon to get my papers through to start a job. The job was at Shenzhen Daily.
- These months weren't entirely wasted. I made an important discovery: Family Guy's a good show.
- Upon returning to China, I moved into a new apartment. When the person was here to film the interior, he insisted on drowning out my boring commentary with a badass version of "It's Not Unusual." I'm not much of a negotiator, so
- Continued to raise this cat, whose name is Whiskey
- Recorded many more guitar solos, including Un Sueno En La Floresta, Dedicatoria, Mozart's Turkish Rondeau, and a Vivaldi Concerto
- Wrote more songs in Mandarin that were sung by a Chinese woman who I used to teach guitar to, such as this one(害羞) and this one(童话)
- Less successfully, tried to sing some other of my own songs, but again failed to really capture any Chinese hearts. I will take a different approach to writing songs in 2012. What that approach is is top secret for now.
- Wrote dozens of articles that were published, mainly in Shenzhen Daily, but also in places such as Open Democracy and International Talent Monthly. These include ones about fame, smart phones, public morals in China, Sino-American relations, China's alternative music scene, teaching English in China, foreigners in Chinese society, The U.S. Presidency, Why this country does not have its own Steve Jobs, Why people who are always smiling are invariably dull and probably miserable, and more.
- Did a lot of translations of poems, speeches, and stories.
- Didn't really do any travelling but met some very interesting people anyway.
- Was mentioned in national paper The Global Times
- I expect next year to be my last China year...but I always say that.
